ROBIN AND THE BACKSTABBERS

BIO

Robin and the Backstabbers is an alternative rock band from Romania, formed in 2010 by Robin Proca, following a solitary one-week journey through the Călimani Mountains. The band describes its music as “melodramatic pop”, a label that only partially reflects its complex and ever-evolving sound.

Although initially imagined as a cover band inspired by the album Graceland, the project quickly evolved into a distinct artistic direction. Robin and the Backstabbers became one of the most unique voices in Romania’s alternative scene, blending eclectic rock with cryptic, modernist lyrics.

The Bacovia Overdrive trilogy stands at the core of their artistic identity, consisting of Stalingrad (2012), Arhanghel’sk(2015) and Vladivostok (2019). The final chapter was released through a landmark concert at Arenele Romane, marking a defining moment in the band’s evolution.

Tracks such as “Vladivostok 2”, “Tarantella (Once, a House)” and “M E C A N I C Ă F I N Ă” outline the aesthetic direction of this universe — a blend of poetic imagery, cinematic atmosphere and reflections on memory, time and identity.

With a sound that moves between introspection and intensity, and a deeply personal artistic language, Robin and the Backstabbers continues to redefine the boundaries of alternative music in Romania.
