Rocanotherworld 2023 is an exploratory festival dedicated to music, art, mentalities, people, and ideas, organized in Iași by the Creative Industries Association and Showberry, having emerged in 2016 as an in memoriam of Ioan Dan Niculescu. This represents a collective journey, a state of mind, a celebration of life through (re)connecting to values, a cultural effervescence, and an outlining of a manner of being – curious, different, and open to the “other”.

Wave 2 of artists in the Rocanotherworld lineup

It has been half a decade since Warhaus, a creation of Maarten Devoldere (Balthazar), suddenly won over our musical hearts with the double triumphant victory of the albums We Fucked a Flame into Being (2016) and Warhaus (2017). The songs on the new Ha Ha Heartbreak album emerged in only three weeks, in the stifling city of Palermo. All Devoldere needed was the loneliness of a hotel room, a guitar, a microphone, and a heart which had recently been broken to smithereens. The pain was tough to manage, so, obviously, Sicily was an escape. However, those who try to overcome life will always find a quick route towards themselves.

Luna Amară have been performing sincerely and directly for over 16 years. With a debut record (“Asfalt”, 2004) which has accrued a cult status throughout the years, the band has refined its artistic language with each subsequent release, reaching what is probably the most complete and mature Luna Amară experience with 2011’s “Pietre în Alb”, featuring complex lyrical themes, highlighted by a forceful interpretation, and modern production. With an impressive live portfolio, and a unique approach to rock music, including metal and progressive influences, Luna Amară continue to be relevant through their art with a message, through social involvement, through the depth of their lyrics, and through the passion with which they approach each live performance.

Zimbru are best friends, performing with a wild mix of chilling synths, angular guitar riffs, and vivacious percussion, all completed by dancing stories, lost pets, queer love, and nostalgia for decades past without having been experienced. The band hail from Cluj-Napoca, Romania, and is most readily described as art-rock.

Actor, producer, DJ, and electronic music buff, Lemon hails from Bucharest, Romania. When not performing, he spends his time in the studio, creating his own music, from downtempo, electronic, spiritual, world, to afro-house and melodic vibes. After spending many years playing some of the most important nightclubs in Romania, and one of the best residences at the seaside, playing DJ at special events, and promoting his own shows, Lemon has had plenty of time to develop his sound.

Rana is a melancholy alternative rock band from Pitești, which emerged in the autumn of 2016. Their sound hovers between alternative rock and indie-emo rock, and their lyrics primarily deal with love, while occasionally tackling social themes. The band has released singles such as “Cer Chinezesc” and “Departe”, and their debut EP, titled “Verde” was released in August 2022, and enjoyed a launch event at Crama Marcea, in the band’s hometown. Currently, the band is working on their second release, which will appear in the autumn of 2023, with a first single, titled “Turist”, emerging on the 23rd of March, 2023.

The most recent edition of Rocanotherworld, the seventh, took place in the Aroneanu leisure space in Iași, between the 23rd and the 26th of June, in 2022. The event enjoyed an audience of over 15.000 people, and the concerts which were broadcast online had over 70.000 views. Four stages with 16 bands, 15 DJs, and 10 improv artists comprised the festival’s musical program.

Festival passes for Rocanotherworld 2023 can already be bought online, in limited numbers and at promotional prices.
